At the Data Science for IoT course at the University of Oxford – I have been working on a strategy implementing Artificial Intelligence holistically on the Cloud and Edge. This is a complex approach with many new concepts to learn. One of the books I have learnt from is “learn azure in a month of lunches” by Iain Foulds. The great thing is: the whole book is free – pdf download – learn azure in a month of lunches
A brief review follows:
The Cloud brings many aspects together and thus changes the role of the Developer who wants to build scalable, secure applications. The developer now needs to understand the functions of IT operations including the functionality of (CICD and devops – in context of Azure). Each Cloud platform implements similar concepts
The book is readable in chunks of 45 mins per chapter(hence the name)
The book has four sections
PART 1 AZURE CORE SERVICES
PART 2 HIGH AVAILABILITY AND SCALE
PART 3 SECURE BY DEFAULT
PART 4 THE COOL STUFF
AZURE CORE SERVICES includes an understanding of github, creating a virtual machine, managing web apps etc
HIGH AVAILABILITY AND SCALE includes Azure Resource Manager, Infrastructure redundancy, oad-balancing applications etc
SECURE BY DEFAULT section includes Backup, recovery, replication, Encryption etc
And finally
THE COOL STUFF section includes Machine learning and artificial intelligence; Azure Cognitive Services, Azure Automation, Azure containers, Azure Kubernetes, Serverless computing
Overall, this is a very readable book. I found it useful both for my teaching and for projects. And the fact its free is even better!
